At the end of the day companies will try and use AI to replace some jobs to increase profits, but then those people they fired won't have the money to buy products those companies produce resulting in less sales, for example people working in movie industry still go to cinema and watch movies, if you replace them with AI they won't be able to afford going to the cinema and paying for movies

Punkt HAD a strong philosophy against digital distraction until they released a smartphone of their own..I moved on from Punkt to the LP2, fantastic phone that has the key tools you need. And I pre-ordered the LP3 which looks super nice!

Spencer, I'm so glad you made this video, you gave voice to an angle of this issue I hadn't quite found the words for yet. When art and entertainment are reduced down to mere product in the first place, it's no wonder so many people are already duped by AI "art" (heavy emphasis on air quotes). I know someone will try to smoke me for this part but I don't care: it's also an ultimate symptom of a capitalist system with a market not properly kept in check. Media companies have already been allowed to turn art and culture into a for profit, assembly line product for over a century with no checks and balances, and now these generative AI tools are giving the corpos the means to set aside the human element in product creation almost entirely.

That's because almost every content creator has submitted to the same business model: Grab attention, give it to advertisers, get compensated. Most Internet content on it's core is just bait for the advertisement industry. Generative AI enables creators to create more bait faster and cheaper than ever before. It tips the scale heavily from quality to quantity.

Okay, you bring up some good points here. FTR I work of an AI and DI company and what I see most in the outside world is people conflating the term intelligence. Generative AI is a specific type of AI that builds an artifact based on learned relationships (biases and weights) rather than step by step instructions. That’s all there is to it really. Even Language models are trained and tuned based on archetypes and Euclidean relationships of little bits of data, just really really fast. The big discovery in AI isn’t so much the data itself but the relationships between the datapoints which is what the ‘intelligence’ in AI really means

I switched to a flip phone a few weeks ago and started leaving my smartphone at home more, and I honestly feel like I acknowledge the world around me more now. However, I have noticed how much harder it is to find a reliable, decent flip phone that has similar functionality to the 3G flip phones discontinued with the 3G shutdown... I have to wonder if the 3G shutdown was to force more people onto smartphones 🤔

I agree about social medi from the web, but Instagram have started being really difficult about this recently. For months I’ve been using the instagram website on my phone, so I can use a Safari extension to hide things like reels or the discovery page, but Instagram gives me multiple pop ups saying ‘we think you’re a robot solve this captcha’. Literally like 3 times in a 5 minute window sometimes.

I recently came across this book on Apple Books about dumb iPhones, literally just called ‘A Dumb iPhone?’ It explains how to lock down an iPhone to remove distractions

How the heck do you quit or get out of Netflix? I didn't even want or remember ever subscribing to Netfix.

I just don’t use social media except RUclips. So no such apps on my iPhone, in fact I’m really picky about installing apps at all. But I have maps, music and internet in a great device. I looked into a dumbphone before, but realised that the iPhone I already have can be just as smart or dumb as I want it to be.

I don't like Apple in general, but I've had an iPod classic 160gb for the last 15 years and I wouldn't change it for anything else.

Back in 2008 I worked my first summer break job ever and earned 400 EUR after a month. With this money I bought myself my first iPod. An iPod Video 5 Gen. I was in life with it and the best thing was, that I bought it from my own money. I never bought something that expensive with my own money before. I don't know what happened but after some years I abandoned it and replaced it with an iPod Touch. The experience wasn't the same. Just some days ago I ordered a black iPod Video 30GB and I swear I was about to cry from the hit of nostalgia when I unpacked it. It's an amazing device from a design point and from a technical point (at that time). There are many music players still on the market but none will ever make me feel like an iPod. An iPod just hits differently. For quite some time now I am back into retro video games/consoles. Black iPod and black Gameboy Pocket...that's my new EDC. Or maybe iPod and Analogue Pocket (a little luxury won't hurt 😉)

Also you can use some older phone you have,I have newer smartphone, but I like to listen to local radio, instead of using smartphone I chose to use old Xperia phone with Android 2, works great for me

I have been rocking my iPhone 13pro in greyscale, with the minimalist launcher. No social media. Honestly it's been great. I think creating a discipline around your smartphone usage is the healthiest option. I know I need certain things sometimes. But having them on my phone the other 90% of the time is when they use me instead. Love seeing your channel grow 👍
